We consistently reinforce the principles behind the Development Partner Framework and the critical importance of supporting the global resources sector as material providers of the future.
DEVELOPMENT PARTNER FRAMEWORK
DPI’s influence in mainstreaming the principles of the Development Partner Framework is best exemplified in the effect on the strategic development of Anglo American over the last 10 years.
The very first Catalyst in Brazil opened the door to a new mindset to mining development with the (then) company leadership. This has led directly to the development of today’s Impact Catalyst in South Africa, and Anglo American’s industry-leading Social Way approach.
INDUSTRY THOUGHT LEADERSHIP
DPI has been a regular contributor of Keynote addresses and Panel Facilitators at major conferences and events, such as Mining Indaba (Cape Town), Future Minerals Forum (Riyadh), IMARC (Sydney) and many more across the globe.
PUBLICATIONS AND PODCASTS
Publishing white papers, interviews and articles, the DPI maintains regular influence in industry publications, online fora and guest appearances on industry podcasts – also publishing our own podcast, Deep Dives, at regular intervals.
In practice, this looks like…
The outworking of mindset change comes through our global networks, programs and presence. Since the DPI’s inception right up to our current activations, the future-forward approach we’ve used has produced a lasting ripple effect on the resources sector on every continent.
YOUTH SALON
DPI holds monthly virtual Youth Salon events, particularly aiming to understand the perspectives of First Nations youth around mining community development.
The attendees, mostly from provincial Canada, Australia and the USA are finding this regular meeting space an important space to air their challenges and concerns for the future.
We recognize the potential in this program to further elevate the voice of this marginalised group, and we are exploring several avenues for expansion currently.
RESCO
As a focus within DPI, RESCO – The Responsible Sourcing Coalition – was formed in 2021 in partnership with the Rockefeller Foundation.
It is a call for companies to move beyond risk management mindsets in mineral sourcing, beyond compliance.
The impetus behind the RESCO platform is the vision of a mineral value chain free from structural inequality and shaped by community values, where mining’s importance to global emissions reduction is maximized and recognized.
FAITH DIALOGUES
Leading up to the worldwide launch of the DPF, we hosted three Days of Reflection for over 100 CEOs. The first event was led by Cardinal Peter Turkson, President of the Pontifical Council of Justice and Peace, and the second event, held in London, was hosted by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The third event was hosted at the Vatican.
These events brought to global prominence the importance of faith-based dialogue as an integral part of reimagining mining operations as development partners, particularly in the many communities where faith is integral to culture and daily life.
