What began as a visionary dialogue in Brazil in 2012 has evolved into a powerful force for positive change, fundamentally reshaping how mining companies and governments engage with communities and approach sustainable development.
WHAT IS THE DPF?
The Development Partner Framework (DPF) is a principles-based approach that guides mining companies to become integrated development partners, delivering economic, environmental, and social value.
Built on three pillars – Shared Purpose, Flourishing Ecosystems, and Competitive Communities, Companies & Countries – the DPF helps create sustainable, collaborative mining practices that benefit all stakeholders and owners.
WHY USE THE DPF?
No matter where you sit in the mining value chain, it’s important to engage meaningfully and with shared intent.
We recognize there has been significant investment, initiatives and good intent towards transforming the mining industry from extractive business to development partner. But these have not kept pace with relentless change and societal demands; there is still more work to be done.
The DPF is a significant, beneficial and proven process to articulate the value proposition of the mining industry.

The goal is a mining industry that acts as a catalyst for the socioeconomic development of the countries and communities in which mines are developed and operated.
