WHAT DOES RESCO DO?

Launched in 2021 in partnership with the Rockefeller Foundation, RESCO is future-focused. Its vision is for a minerals value chain free from structural inequality, shaped by community values, and capable of long-term value creation.

The coalition aims to move companies beyond mere compliance to a state in which mining’s importance to energy expansion and global emissions reduction is maximized and recognized.

Tackling confronting challenges with no proven path, RESCO is a unique coalition of members diving deep into the functionality of the minerals value chain. It is a space where community representatives and value chain stakeholders can share perspectives, participate in case studies, and learn about responsible sourcing.

Underpinned by the Development Partner Framework and a commitment to fairness, equity, and inclusivity, RESCO has a bold future.

RESCO’S VISION FOR 2040

  • Solidarity across the mining value chain regarding all nuances of responsible sourcing; understanding the opportunities, challenges and impacts on society
  • Protecting the environment, maximizing recycling and reuse of mined minerals
  • Land owners, rights holders and communities are equitable partners in decision-making with consumer-facing companies
  • Reliable data enhances transparency and informs decisions and actions across the value chain
  • The value chain works internally and externally to drive contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals. 

How we get there

Designed through a multi-stakeholder visioning process, our priority activities are in areas ripe for change or in need of urgent attention.

These activities bring different stakeholder groups together in ways that may be new or unexplored, and will open avenues for future activities necessary to bring our 2040 vision to life.

Build the RESCO

Hub and Marketplace

The RESCO Hub will be an information platform for two main groups: mining companies and value chain actors seeking clarity and guidance about responsible sourcing and governmental and non-governmental organizations seeking organized responsible sourcing information. The RESCO Hub will be a common space for engagement with fellow interested parties and become the ‘home’ for Responsible Sourcing.

The RESCO Marketplace will be an innovation platform, a space for new ideas to meet expertise and funding. This will be a ‘go-to’ space for innovators and technology providers, enterprises and entrepreneurs, and research groups such as academic institutions.

Address Structural

Inequality in the Mining Value Chain

RESCO will tackle culture in the mining industry and value chain to address the difficult topic of structural inequality. This could look like case studies, inter and intra-sector analysis, or deep interviews with a vision to shift cultural norms.

This critical work invites community groups and individuals, mining companies of any size, and consumer-facing companies to be involved.

In this space, community representatives can engage deeply with other value chain stakeholders to share community perspectives where they may not otherwise have this opportunity.

RESCO’s Community links closely with other DPI initiatives and conversations, like our Youth Salon program.
